How to Care for Your Car Battery

It’s easy to take your car’s battery for granted, especially if you drive a brand-new car like a 2018 Chrysler 300. A new car comes with a new battery, after all, so why should you have to worry about your vehicle’s battery if your car, and battery, are less than three years-old?

While the owners of new cars may have little to worry about when it comes to their batteries in the first few years they own their automobiles, owners of pre-owned vehicles often can’t say the same. If you drive a used Chrysler 300 and your battery is three-years old or older, for instance, it’s critical that you take steps to ensure your battery will last.

Here are some of the things you can do to care for your battery:

  • Test Your Battery: Hot temperatures take a serious toll on car batteries, something that is sometimes only obvious when the temperatures start to drop. While winter is often blamed for dead batteries, it’s usually what they go through during the summer that causes batteries to die when it’s colder. Even though we don’t see freezing temperatures in our area, winter is still a good time to have your battery tested to make sure it’s producing enough energy.
  • Check Your Connections: As Dodge dealers serving Long Beach, CA and surrounding areas, we strongly recommend that you check your battery’s connections. Your connections should be secure, clean, and free of corrosion.
  • Drive Daily: It’s important to drive your car regularly to ensure your battery remains in good shape. If you can’t drive more than a mile every day, consider using a charger or maintainer to keep your battery properly charged.

If you’re worried about your battery’s health, we encourage you to bring your car into our Champion Dodge service center. For more battery care tips, contact Champion Chrysler Jeep® Dodge RAM today.
